/ Techno Classica Essen, Essen, Germany
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Mercedes-Benz C111 experimental line. All its variants were presented at Techno Classica (usually 3 orange ones are on display in brand's museum in Stuttgart). The one in the picture is C111-II, showcased in Geneva in 1970. It features a four-rotor Wankel engine producing 350 PS, which allows it to make 0-100 km/h in 4,8 s and a top speed of 300 km/h. Probably owing to the gullwing doors, some even thought it would be a successor of the 300SL. C111 cars, however, remained only as prototypes and record-braking vehicles and never made it into production.
