Porsche 906 / Carrera 6 was a limited, street legal production special built exclusively to meet the FIA homologation requirements (where at least 50 examples should have been built). The car was equipped with 1.9 liter flat-six and shared some parts with the previous 904 and the new 911, but was still much lighter, topping around 580kg. From 1966 it successfully competed in endurance races around the world securing numerous first positions in its class. The car was marketed as Carrera 6 and not 906, as the Peugeot had rights to name its models with 3-digit numbers with 0 in the middle (similarly to why the 911 is not 901).
